Life after Vaccination

So you got fully vaccinated. Now what?

A year ago, no one knew what to expect. How long would the pandemic lockdown last? Would a cure for COVID-19 ever be discovered or a COVID-19 vaccine developed? It was an uncertain time. Now that vaccines have arrived, more than two billion people around the world have received one. Whatever your views are on the vaccine, you can be thankful that in many parts of the world, COVID-19 deaths are declining and life is beginning to look a little more normal.

Many people are hesitant to receive the vaccine due to fears about its safety, efficacy, and possible side effects. But there are many benefits for fully vaccinated people. To be considered, you must be two weeks out from receiving one shot of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine or the two shots of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine.

So can you get back to normal life now? Here’s what to expect.

Resume Activities

When the pandemic arrived in 2020, life came to a screeching halt. Businesses were closed, schools went virtual, jobs were lost, events were cancelled, and life was changed. Fully vaccinated people can celebrate, because they’re now safe to resume normal activities. According to health experts, there is no risk of getting severely sick with COVID or spreading the virus if you’ve been fully vaccinated. Go to family gatherings, sporting events and birthday parties. Head to restaurants, concerts, religious services, work, shopping malls, and theme parks. And do it all without fear of exposure.

Have Peace of Mind

A lot of fear surrounds the COVID-19 virus. There’s the fear of exposure, quarantines, isolation, illness, and death. But there’s also the fear of passing the virus to someone else who may get severely ill. One of the huge benefits of being fully vaccinated is the peace of mind that comes with it. You can go about your daily life without fear of being infected or possibly infecting others. Grandparents can safely visit with grandchildren, nursing home residents can once again have visitors, and you can go back to having your coveted family holiday gatherings.

Say Goodbye to Masks and Distancing

Unless specifically stated, fully vaccinated folks don’t need to wear face coverings or social distance from others. However, masks and distancing may still be required by law in some cases. Additionally, certain businesses, hospitals, and public transportation may still require masks and distancing, regardless of whether or not you’re fully vaccinated.

Skip Quarantine, Get Tested

There are rare cases of what are referred to as “breakthrough infections” in which a fully vaccinated person becomes infected with COVID. When this happens, symptoms are almost always mild. If you develop aches, congestion, fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, headache, or fatigue, get tested for COVID. A positive test result means you’ll need to separate yourself from others.

Unless they develop symptoms, fully vaccinated people don’t need to quarantine if exposed to COVID-19. It remains that unvaccinated people must quarantine themselves for ten days if they’ve been exposed or tested positive for the virus.
There may still be travel considerations if you’re fully vaccinated. Each country has its own laws regarding testing and self-quarantining when you travel. Testing prior to flying and self-quarantining after arrival are no longer necessary for those traveling within the United States. If traveling internationally, check the COVID regulations in your destination country. When arriving in the United States, fully vaccinated people don’t need to self-quarantine.
